In the East Cape of Cabo, donkeys thrive in some of the harshest conditions. Steady, resilient, and resourceful, they reminded me that building an enduring business requires the same traits.
On our annual Mexico corporate retreat, that lesson stood out in three ways:
1. Adaptability is the real edge. Whether you are running a company or surviving in the desert, success comes from being flexible, resourceful, and ready for the unexpected.
2. Droughts last longer than we think. Watching donkeys thrive in a place that seldom sees rain reminded me there are always more resources than we realize. That same grit has carried us through recent years as we build out our platform of niche industrial assets (industrial outdoor storage and self-storage).
3. Family culture runs deep. Culture is not what you write on the wall, it is what shows up when no one is looking. On the way to the airport, our group stopped to share breakfast with roadside donkeys, even in a rush to catch our flight. Our guide explained they survive on food from locals and travelers. That moment, small as it was, showed how naturally our team lives out Westlake’s family values.
At Westlake Realty Group, we believe business is not just about the deals we close. It is about the people and relationships that make it possible. Cabo reminded us that resilience, connection, and adaptability will carry us forward.
